Introduction: Employers must scrutinize their pre-employment actions to make sure they are legal and compliant with regulations. Read this scenario regarding pre-employment steps taken by an organization and then respond to the checklist items.
Scenario: You are the HR manager of a large child and youth care center. The center provides services to children ages 1 year–12 years old. The chief executive officer (CEO) has asked you to prepare a 2-page memo addressing how to conduct comprehensive background checks on employees hired to work with children and youth at the center.
Write your 2-page business memo in APA format and address the following questions:
Describe the types of background checks you recommend the employer use during the hiring process.
Provide some guidelines that employers should follow when using each of these types of background checks.
Describe the potential legal pitfalls that can occur with each type of background check.
Explain how you will determine if someone is legally able to work in the United States (U.S.).
