Family Relationships, Socioeconomic Status, and Culture

In your readings this week, you have learned about family processes, and the impact of different family concepts such as parenting styles and discipline on development. You have also examined how different factors such as socioeconomic status and culture impact development and academic performance and success. Use the information that you have learned about these topics for this discussion.

Please respond to the following:

Explain Bronfenbrenner’s five family systems.
Then, using one of his systems, provide a real-life example of what might occur with a family in that system. Use a family of a minority status with a different family configuration (i.e., divorced families, working parent families, same-sex couples) in your example.
Describe what your relationship with your parents/guardians and your siblings (if you have any) was like in middle and high school.
Discuss if your relationship with these family members has changed in your adulthood and if so, explain how your relationships are now different.
Choose an issue that children living in low-income communities may experience (i.e., mental health issues, inadequate education, safety concerns). Illustrate how the issue that you chose impacts child development and what human services professionals can do to address the problem.
