To Do:
1. Read any four short stories in TEN
STORIES: WRITING ABOUT ARCHITECTURE, noticing how the personal
information in these essays supports the discussion of the architecture. Note the tone of each piece and aim to
emulate.
2. Aim for a Bachelardian portrait of your homes, thinking of the many layers that inform them: cultural, historical, material, metaphorical, symbolic, and emotional.
3. Describe your home’s history and landscape
(the basic where, what was there before, what might be under the structure?), and
then describe the “building” itself, its rooms rendered in vivid but brief
detail. You can refer to the Bachelard or other writers as you write. You might also want to incorporate some of
the definitions and ideas of home that were brought up by Dr. Craig Gurney in
the lecture we watched on Home recently. Or ideas
of landscape we read about earlier in the semester. You may want to read further in THE POETICS OF
SPACE itself, looking into different chapters, but I would like to see at least
two quotes from two different sources used as supporting evidence
in the paper.
4. Address and incorporate your recollections
of marks (i.e. traces of life/lives) or collections or altars
inside the home. Describe the objects
and their emotional import and impact. Give
the reader the back-story of the objects/marks, connections to the past,
ancestors, why they are meaningful, etc.
Describe these things in detail. How
do they add to your portrait of a Home?

I have attached a few files and texts that will need to be cited. A final draft is not needed as I will edit and customize the piece to my environment/standards. I just need an overall draft to be able to edit and begin the process.
