Week 4: Designing GOOD Questions
As I mentioned previously, designing the questionnaire, survey, or data you will be collecting from participants is the most complicated part of this week’s work. This part is so very different for each project that describing it in anything less than ambiguous terms is almost impossible. However, there is much we can learn from one another’s perspectives on the questions we plan on posing to our study participants and the methods of data collection we are considering. Consider the tips presented in the following video.

Searching for existing surveys
The advantages and disadvantages of online versus in-person survey collection
Simplifying a challenging question
Gathering suggestions for improving a small subset of questions you have developed
Gauging the length of time needed to complete your questionnaire or survey
Other questions as they relate to the process of designing and distributing materials to gather data from your research participants
