You are in the role of a seasoned supervisor who has been invited to participate in a poster session at an upcoming leadership conference for managers and supervisors. Poster sessions at conferences allow professional presenters in a specific field to share their knowledge on a topic using a creative poster. The poster can be a combination of condensed text, tables, graphs, pictures, and other presentation formats as long as it makes the point.
The purpose of your poster presentation is to share effective practices with fellow supervisors to motivate employees who resist efforts to support positive organizational change. Explain how supervisors at various levels of their organization can successfully do this. With this in mind, using the assignment template provided or any template you find appropriate, create a 1-page poster for the session that is informational, visually interesting, and engaging. Your poster should include a short title, an abstract, information on your topic, and any conclusions or recommendations.
The length should be between 300-500 words total. This would allow a person to read your poster quickly to grasp the concepts in no more than 5-10 minutes.

Effective Supervision in the Modern Workplace
Understanding that most supervisors are promoted to their positions based on their technical skills or productivity, it is not a surprise that they might not be as savvy understanding the business of their organizations. Therefore, one of the first pieces of knowledge a new supervisor must gain is business acumen, also known as business sense. Business acumen is the ability to have in-depth knowledge of a business’s meaning, its operations, functions, and external environment. Furthermore, you must comprehend how to apply that knowledge to inform business initiatives and operations to remain consistent with the organization’s strategic direction (SHRM, 2017). Some suggestions for how managers can best augment their business acumen is by making a concerted effort to become a learner of their organization.
Since strategic thinking and business acumen both involve seeing the “big picture,” the two complement each other well and provide the basis for better strategic planning, organizational change, and workforce management. In the strategic planning process, business acumen will allow you to plan for possible futures based on identifying the gaps between the current and future states the organization desires to achieve. You can leverage your business acumen skills to enhance organizational change because you understand the business, its interdependencies, and the goals of the organization. You can more accurately and confidently set the most appropriate goals and actions for the team and the organization. Most important is that you have a sense of the best way to build support for a positive perspective for an organizational change. In the long run, business acumen can help you build capability in and for people to collaborate effectively.
Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.
