This is the first part of the Diverse Portrayals in Children’s Literature Project (DPCL). The purpose of this assignment is to identify, select, and evaluate children’s literature that reflects diverse Asian or Asian-American cultures, and to build an annotated bibliography. You are also expected to demonstrate how you can engage young children in the discussion of diversity related issues. Survey children’s literature and read at least 5 books representing Asians or Asian Americans. Select realistic fiction books or informational story books published after 2000 with a priority on finding the most recent books. Older books may be used, upon approval of the instructor. Do NOT select non-fiction fact books or folktales for this project. Please do NOT select more than 2 books by the same author for this assignment.
