Research Proposal :You will engage in developing a research proposal to conduct an empirical research
with/about young children and their families aligned with sociocultural perspective
Step 1: Abstract – Submit a research abstract (250-words limit) with the following information:
• What is the overall topic or concept you wish to research?
• Why are you interested in this research area?
• How does this align with this course focus, and why is it necessary or significant? note that my course about (Sociocultural Approaches to Working with
Children and Families)
from the rubric that it need to focus of self-study is clearly
articulated, and is well situated
in the core discussion about
diversity and/or multicultural
education.

Step 2: Develop Research Proposal Review research articles pertaining to your topic or concept to identify what research is
already done and what gaps exist within the existing literature. Refine your research
plan including specific research questions, methodology, timeline, etc.
Step 3: Presentation → Prepare a 10-minute multimedia presentation sharing your key research plan.
Step 4: Final Paper → Write up a research proposal (2500-words limit) addressing the following components:
1) Statement of Need – the overarching problem this research is attempting to solve,
and its significance
2) Goals and Objectives – specific aims and research questions this research is
attempting to answer
3) Review of Relevant Literature – findings and gaps from existing literature related to
your research, and summary of conceptual framework or theory guiding this
research
4) Research Activities and Methods – description of research contexts, participants,
data collection and analysis procedures, etc. NOTE: research instruments such as
interview protocols or survey instruments should be provided as Appendices, which
will not count toward the total word limit.
5) Expected Outcomes – new knowledge, contributions, or implications expected from
this research
6) Supplemental Info – (a) Research Timeline outlining total research duration, and key
events and milestones of research; (b) Reference List following APA style.
