Jazz Performance:
The paper must be 2 pages single spaced in Times New Roman 12 pt font. The format is somewhat open but should start with a who, what, where, when and why statement. Approach the review as if you were writing for a newspaper or music magazine. Describe the place the concert took place. Was it formal? Informal? Most importantly tell me about the music. Who was playing? What instruments did the musicians play? What type of music were they playing? Go on to analyze the music and how it sounded to you. Include such topics as style, influences, composition and improvisation. Don’t just say, “I liked it”. Evaluate the performance using your own language. Did you like a particular piece or specific performer? Did you not enjoy a particular aspect of the performance? Use your imagination and intellect.
