The final assignment should be between 4-5 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New
Roman, and include both a title page and references/ works cited page/ bibliography (APA,
MLA, or Chicago). A critical book review should go beyond just summarizing the work: you
should aim to 1) (briefly) summarize the book and the author’s main argument(s), 2) identify two
or three central themes throughout the text, 3) critically engage with the themes/ arguments made
throughout the text, and 4) identify ways in which future research might improve on the existing
work. You must also include at least 1 course reading in your review, and reference/ cite
accordingly. *For examples of
scholarly book reviews, you can check out the Canadian Journal of Communication website
(https://www.cjc-online.ca/index.php/journal/issue/archive), as they have a number of review
articles available in each issue.
