Steps for the project:
Choose one fossil from the following list:
Homo neanderthalensis
Homo erectus
Homo denisova
Homo floresiensis
Homo naledi
Research your selected fossil and answer the following questions:
When was this species first discovered/named?
What are the type specimens for this fossil (specific fossil considered the example for the group)?
Is this fossil a separate species from anatomically modern humans? If so, what evidence has been presented to support this (DNA, morphology, etc…be specific)?
Where are the fossils representing this group found?
What is the time span of their existence?
What do we know about their diet?
What do we know about their material culture (tools, art, symbolism, etc.)?
What is their significance to our greater understanding of evolutionary theory? Think big here. For example, was this fossil the first to migrate out of Africa? Is this fossil one that we know mated with anatomically modern humans?
What is your favorite thing about this fossil and why did you choose to research it?
Create a digital poster, using either Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides, documenting the answers to those questions.
Include a bibliography in your poster to cite the sources you used to answer the questions.
“Present” your poster by creating a two-minute video that covers the main points.
