Discuss about Chinese History research proposal and research paper.

Write a research proposal that is about 2 pages and includes a brief introduction to your proposed topic (double space) and an annotated bibliography (3 important scholarly sources). The research proposal is due on Nov 4!!!!

Your topic should examine a historical force, social relationship, political change, or cultural development in a specific historical context (or, if you want to draw comparisons, you may focus on two cases). The more focused in time and place, the better. For example, you could consider how parent-child relations in the countryside were affected by the implementation of marriage laws in the early 1950s. Or, you could consider how global economic forces in the 1920s affected the cotton industry in Shanghai. You are free to explore any topic that relates to China between the 19th century and 21st century. Please contact me if you are having trouble narrowing down your topic. In your 1-2 page introduction, you should both provide some basic historical information necessary for understanding your topic and explain why you think the topic is significant (how does it contribute to, or complicate, our understanding of Chinese people, society, or culture and/or China’s place in the world).

After the proposal got approved by the professor, You can continue with the paper, around 10 pages. Your final paper, approximately 10 pages in length, must cite at least five scholarly sources and two primary sources. Scholarly sources include peer-reviewed journal articles or books (and book chapters) by academic authors. Primary sources may include newspaper articles (such as articles from the North China Herald), visual materials (available on sites such as wdl.org, https://visualizingcultures.mit.edu/home/index.html, and other sites we have used in class), or documents from primary source collections (such as twill, ed., Sources in Chinese History; or, Chen, ed., The Search for Modern China: A Documentary Collection). Feel free to contact me with questions about sources.

Your paper must be double-spaced, printed in 12-point font, and left-margin justified. Each page must be numbered. The student’s name, the title of the paper, the date of submission, and the course title must appear on the first page. All footnotes and bibliographical entries must follow the Chicago style.

Most importantly, your paper should provide an answer to a focused research question.
