Discuss both the positive and negative aspects of the system you saw in Salzman’s book.

Using both the textbook and the non-fiction writings of Mark Salzman, please define juvenile delinquency and explain how the various delinquency theories are related to the stories of the young men in Salzman’s book. You must use at least TWO theories and explain how they can be used to describe either one individual in Salzman’s book or how they can be used to describe the entire group of young men in the juvenile facility. How might these theories explain the circumstances that led the young men/man to the situations they/he found themselves/himself in in the book?
In addition, please discuss the juvenile justice system. Discuss both the positive and negative aspects of the system you saw in Salzman’s book. How are deterrence, prevention, and rehabilitation measures (as discussed in Agnew & Brezina) related to what these young men experienced? Please feel free to expand on other pertinent topics from our text that might help to provide an overall picture of the experiences of these young men, coupled with the background information you have obtained on juvenile justice and delinquency through both text and in-class discussions. While it is expected and required that you will utilize and cite both the textbook and Salzman’s work, you are not required to use other sources. You are, however, welcome to use any other additional in-class materials or cite classroom virtual office hours or discussions if you find helpful in allowing you to address this prompt.
Remember this is an open-book exam. There is no minimum or maximum page limit, the goal is to fully answer the question and provide an analysis of Salzman and the boys’ experiences in relation to our text and discussions. You will submit this as a typed, double-spaced MS Word document. This final exam is worth 10% of your overall grade, please see rubric below.
