Participants will be required to submit a research paper on a specific classification (deafness) under IDEA. All topics are developed individually with the professor. APA 7th edition style is required. See Research Paper rubric for grading guidelines.

II. Introduction:
a) Historical background
b) Definition of the topic/classification/disability and where relevant, types of the disability
c) Characteristics of the disability
d) Causes and preventions of the disability
e) Prevalence/placement of students with the classification based on IDEA 2004 and current NYS Part 200 Regulations.

III. Challenges and Solutions
a) Specific challenges presented by the disability
b) Educational and behavioral tools utilized to identify students’ current level of performance
c) Research-based strategies proven effective for students with this disability. Strategies may be instructional or behavioral or both. Include the effective use of technology where relevant to the specific disability.
d) Home-School connection-discussing pivotal research and evidence of best practices.

IV. Conclusion
Discuss findings and possible issues or questions you or others will continue to explore based on this topic.

V. References:
Cite a minimum of seven references. Information should reflect current research. Additionally, two of the seven sources should be primary sources, such as a first person account of the disability. This could be a TedTalk, blog, youtube video, etc from a person who has the disability or who is intimately familiar with the disability
