Discuss how inequality (or how does one or more specific type of inequality) affect the quality and/or stability of democracy?

For full credit, the essay should be 1500-1800 words in length, double-spaced, in 11 or 12-point font, with 1-inch margins, with the word count at the end of the paper. You should not draw on sources that do not appear on the syllabus (this is not a research paper), but to earn an A or a B, you will be required to reference, in a substantive way, readings from across the course, including multiple recommended (3 or more) items on the syllabus (i.e., to show that you have read and synthesized the course readings). You can also
reference lectures and discussions, or news articles from the semester, but we will view references
to material from outside the course with skepticism (this needs to be a paper based on things YOU
have read and learned in THIS class).

In this course, you should learn not just about Latin America, but from Latin America. With that in
mind, explain what the Latin American experience teaches us about ONE of the following
issues/questions. Whichever you choose, be sure to define your terms, to offer a thesis
statement that encapsulates your argument, and to give evidence/ examples from the
readings to support the argument, discussing at least two Latin American countries.

Discuss how inequality (or how does one or more specific type of inequality) affect the quality and/or stability of democracy? (Explain the mechanisms and support with
examples.)
