Polygamy refers to the marriage form in which one individual has multiple spouses at the
same time. Polygyny is a form of polygamy which refers to a marriage whereby the man is
married to several other women. Polyandry is a marriage form in which a woman is married
to two or more men at one time. Compared to Polyandry, Polygyny is more prevalent in
many societies, as it is justified by its various characteristics such as wealthy groom, women
as cultivators, women outnumbering men and the male position in society (Ramhurry, 2019).
