PAPER #2: How should we handle juveniles, especially young juveniles, who commit violent and/or
sexual crimes of a heinous nature? As a forensic psychologist, you have been asked by a juvenile
probation officer to do a professional risk assessment of these two different juveniles. Things you are
asked to consider in doing your risk assessment is 1) should this juvenile be tried as a juvenile or an
adult, and 2) what type of restorative or retributive justice should be considered for this juvenile if the
juvenile judicial process is chosen. The first juvenile is a 14-year-old boy who raped and tortured a 16-
year-old girl in a sadistic manner and seemed to enjoy it with no remorse. The second juvenile is a 12-
year-old girl that brought a gun to school and killed the three boys who have been constantly bullying
her and accidentally shot and killed a teacher who tried to intervene. The three boys are from very
influential and affluent families in the community who are demanding for maximum justice. The girl
has expressed concerns to the school principal in the past regarding these three boys. What
assessment tools would you use in doing your psychological assessment and risk management
assessment? How would you prepare for and conduct your personal interview with each juvenile as
you prepare for the assessment you will be making to the juvenile probation officer?
