If you were a correctional officer or warden, what difficulties might you foresee in attempting to run your unit of the institution while at the same time upholding the legal rights of the prisoners? To fully address this question, you must identify what legal rights prisoners have, the difficulty in following them, and the consequences for not following them!
Which of the alternatives to litigation—inmate grievance procedures, ombudsman, and mediation—do you believe is most effective in maximum-security prisons for men? What factors make these alternatives less effective at resolving inmate complaints? Make sure to define the three procedures, discuss the pros and cons of each, and come to a conclusion as to which one is the most effective.

Go online and research programs that are currently available for special offenders (as defined by your chapter). Include the link to the program, briefly summarize it, and discuss both positives and negatives about the program’s use.
