In part two of this exam, you are to complete one of the following questions. Answer each question as fully as you can, and provide textual evidence in support of your answer. The textual evidence should take the form of actual quotations from the text(s). Make sure that your essay features a clear thesis statement and that you provide enough textual evidence to support it. Do not use secondary texts (outside sources); however, you may refer to any handouts I’ve provided in Documents as well as to the course lectures. Your essay must be between 500-750 words and double-spaced with one-inch margins in standard 12-point font.
Discuss how Twain uses Huck (the realist) and Tom (the romantic) to demonstrate his belief that romantic engagement with a troubled world is not only foolish but also quite often dangerous. Some discussion of the difference in Tom and Huck’s circumstances is relevant here.
