Exercise 1. Formulate an EBP question to inform your decision about the most effective intervention to employ in the case of a 6-year-old African American boy who witnessed his father severely battering his mother and whose diagnosis included both conduct disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder.
Exercise 2. Suppose that your search for evidence to answer your question in exercise 1 yield no study in which the characteristics of the participants matched those of your client. Discuss the various considerations that would inform your decision about which of several different research supported interventions is most likely to be effective for your client.
Exercise 3. Discuss how your answer to exercise 2 bears on several objections raised by critics of EBP.
Exercise 4. Identify what you deem as the most important generic relationship skills that you are learning in your practice courses and discuss how they are part of becoming an evidence-based practitioner.
