a total of 75 points (15 points per question).
You should write as much as is needed for each answer. Please read each item very carefully and
thoroughly. You should address
each question for each number.

1-Chapter
9 discusses three main ways to analyze an audience. Discuss how you might analyze an audience
before delivering a speech in each of these three ways (provide an example for
each of these three ways). Discuss how
you could analyze the audience in our COMM 100 course to select your persuasive
speech topic.
2-For
the following five topics, locate one reference for each topic that you think
would be appropriate and effective to use for that topic. Provide enough details regarding the
reference that is needed (details regarding the source, author(s), date of publication,
date accessed, etc.) The five topics are: (1) Home prices in Storm Lake, Iowa,
(2) How to plant and grow tomatoes, (3) iPhone 13 Pro, (4) Famous football
stadiums, and (5) Natural disease resistance in plants.
3-Describe
all parts of what an effective introduction should look like for a speech (can
be informative or persuasive). Write
your own example introduction to either an informative or persuasive
speech.
4-Chapter
10 discusses the importance of delivery when giving a speech. Discuss why delivery is important to a
speech. Discuss four areas of verbal
delivery and four areas of nonverbal delivery that are important to a speech
and provide an example of each.
5-Discuss
four different patterns for organizing a speech. Be able to provide four different
speech topics that could lend themselves well to particular patterns of
organization and briefly discuss how you could organize the speech’s main
points.
6-
Discuss the four main types of delivery methods, what the strengths and
weaknesses are of each, when you might use each type of delivery method, and an
example of each delivery method.
7-Identify
which fallacy matches correctly with each of the five following fallacies.

A – Today, marijuana is outlawed for
recreational use in Iowa. Tomorrow it will be alcohol and cigarettes;
eventually, you and I will not be allowed legally to buy a cup of coffee
without being arrested.
B – You can either dedicate yourself to
karate, or just live on your couch eating chips.
C – Since everybody is buying electric
vehicles these days, it must be a wise decision for me to do the same.
D – Mr. Smith’s economic arguments make no
sense because he is completely insincere and is just after our votes.
E – No way I’m voting for Mr. Jones. Years
ago, when he took over as the mayor, the city had plenty of money. When he left
a few years later, the city was in lots of debt.
