During this module, we discovered the Age of the Renaissance. This was the turning point between medieval and modern times and it marks the revival of Greco-Roman culture. There was a broader intellectual renewal that produced a wealth of new technology and ideas. This period recognized a spirit of self-conscious individualism in political and economic life as well as in the arts. Money, fame, and power became motivating forces much as it is today. The middle class prospered; and there was an advancement of classically based education and a revival of Greco-Roman principles in art and architecture. An optimistic view of the human potential for knowledge and pleasure inspired the European rebirth that led to many of today’s landmarks.
