As an American identifying your “self” as individualistic, how would you have to adjust your communication style when dealing with Japanese, characterized as being collective? What are the main challenges that you would have to overcome to ensure that you are an effective communicator?
Discuss one (or more) of the videos you watched, focusing on those aspects you may have found more interesting, surprising, or pertinent to your own life experience.
Your initial post should be at least 300 words in length. Then reply to other posts (at least 3, minimum of 100 words each) regarding your opinion on your classmate(s)’ perspectives and offer suggestions that may be helpful to understanding the issues at stake.
Both in your original post and in your responses, please make every effort to stay on topic and remain focused on the issues in hand. When responding to peers’ postings, do not limit yourself to statements such as “Great post, I really enjoyed reading your opinion on this and that.” Instead, try to offer additional insight into the subject, question the assertions exposed with substantive reasoning, and suggest possible alternatives or further depth to the arguments.
Please plan to post comments and questions to the online discussions on multiple days during the week; do not pile all of your responses into one or two visits simply to meet the content requirements. It is important to return to the online discussions several times each week to see what others have posted and add your comments and questions. Submit your main post as a reply to the question or discussion topic posted based on the discussion instructions
