Movie Analysis Presentation
You should select a movie that you know illustrates your target phenomenon (I will provide a list of movies to help you in this process. It is the document listed above). View the film you choose at least once (although two viewings offers a distinct advantage), then highlight how your target phenomena is depicted in the film. Under each movie, there is a list of several social psychological concepts/phenomena. You are required to discuss at least SIX concepts/phenomena. You can choose whichever you’d like. You then need to narrate a PowerPoint presentation where you discuss the concepts and
how they are displayed in various scenes in the movie.
The Breakfast Club
Issues dealing with prejudice, discrimination, attitudes, violence, compliance, conformity,
obedience, attitude change, person perception, self, social influence, interpersonal attraction,
personal relationships, helping behavior, social facilitation
You will use Kaltura Capture to record you narrating the PowerPoint. You don’t need to show your face. You can use Personal Capture (within Kaltura Media) to do a video of the screen ONLY. You will be responsible for providing audio and explaining your analysis as you click through the presentation.
10-15 slides should be efficient. You should have 1-2 slides PER social psychological concept/phenomena & related movie scene. There is a document listed in this folder that has a list of requirements/recommendations for the PowerPoint. Please follow these guidelines. Your first slide should be a title page with a picture from the movie, your name, date, class/section, and the title of the movie with “Social Psychology Movie Analysis”. Your 2nd slide should be a brief summary of the movie, your 3rd slide should be a quick description of the social psych concepts you plan to cover. Your remaining slides should discuss the concepts you have chosen and the relevant movie scenes in detail. You can organize this as you’d like. You may want to do 1 slide that describes the concept (USE the textbook and cite it!!), defines it, etc. and then you can have the next slide where you describe, in detail, the movie scene that demonstrates this concept. Please do not rely on text. Please do not put a ton of text on each slide. Please use your narration to describe most of the movie scenes. You can organize it like this for the remaining scenes. Please provide one overview/concluding slide and then lastly, a works cited slide that cites the textbook AND the movie. Please use CORRECT APA format for these references. Yes, you can properly cite a movie in APA.
Please email me if you still have questions. Kaltura Capture is an easy program to use. Please get comfortable with this and start this before the deadline so there are no issues.
You MUST narrate the presentation with your audio, in order to receive full credit. You must also submit your presentation to this link here. In addition, this week’s discussion is the movie analysis so your discussion post simply involves you correctly posting your presentation (with audio). There is a way to “embed” your Kaltura presentation into a discussion thread. Please email me with questions on how to do this if you cannot figure it out. Your responses for this week’s discussion is commenting/complimenting your classmates movie analyses.
