Using the panels on Canvas which lists the political characteristics of fascism [you must think critical about these criteria as well as the movie! They are not the Ten Commandants!], pick out as many fascist characteristic and situations in Starship Troopers as you can. Then pick 5 which are really “telling” and write about them. What is really intoxicating about the movie for me set four-hundred years in the future [they speak English in Buenos Aires!] is not only the lack of sexual inhibitions (civilization improved—Sigmund Freud ha! ha!) no racial or class prejudice of any kind, yet animated by murderous killer instincts bent on extinction of the enemy bugs. We see youth intoxicated with the death-instinct. The movie is modeled in spirit by the Director Paul Verhoewen, a Dutchman in Hollywood, on the Third Reich, and final spoiler alert, the humans are losing the war against the giant bugs. The movie is pro-war and pro-fascist in its artistic construction and attitude. Contrast this with negative attitudes towards Nazi Germany, especially in the academic establishment.
