Somatic Illnesses
Somatic illnesses, by definition, would seem to not involve the mind. However, the term is used because, thought the mind and body are viewed as distinct, they have a causal relationship. The somatic classifications, as discussed in your textbook, generally include multi-dimensional perspectives of etiology, and may vary from group to group regarding both cause and treatment.
