Students will delve into ‘enemy images’ (posters, advertisements, or videos with speeches) in a 4-5 page submission that illustrates demonizing and/or the dehumanizing language toward a specific race or ethnic group which has influenced immigration policies and/or behavior towards that group.
Students will:
Present a current (between 2010-2021) ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image (pictures or video with language). Include the image in the submission or the link to the video you are analyzing.
Outline how the selected image or language in a video can be used to justify xenophobia, micro and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotype, and discrimination towards specific immigrant populations; thus, limiting integration and equality (economic, political, and social) within that specific society. Within your answer integrate four assumptions from two of the required readings (citation is required) to the realities of xenophobia, micro and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotyping, and discrimination.
You can show how the four assumptions brought forth from two required readings —-make sure your assumptions reflect similarly to the visual and your thesis.
You can create counter-arguments that illustrate the limitations (problems, weakness) of the assumptions in the reading and/or central points in the film when compared to the visual and your thesis.
Address how the selected ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image has been reproduced in the society it was created in and the international community (in one other country).
Discuss the consequence of this image and how these types of images can be counteracted (be specific in your plan).
Submissions must be between 4-5 pages (this does not include the reference page). Make sure you note the article assumptions with an in-text citation–citations must be used and include a reference page. Refer to the Writing Specifications for the technical requirements of the assignment. No more than 5 pages (excluding the image and reference page)– Do not forget to include the image in the submission or the link to the video you are analyzing.
