Provide a reflective summary of Module 2.
This is a time to apply self-care.
Complete each Journal Reflection by providing a summary of all readings, videos, websites, and etc. included in each module. You do NOT need to do a write-up on each article, video, etc. Rather, write summary of the module and theme. However, if you find it easier to write a summary on each reading and activity, that’s ok as well. Also, if you’d rather do a video journal, you may. The point is not to overwork and overstress in completing the assignment. The point is to give yourself allotted course time to process the abundance of knowledge you’re acquiring from each module. Apply self-care during relaxation time, process your learning and rejuvenate.
TRUST the Process.
Students will critically think about and apply the daily readings, course activities, videos, etc. while spending time each day observing and reflecting on the natural and social environments. The natural environment will include a mixture of time observing and reflecting on the water, air, trees, earth, sky, etc. Due to COVID-19, the social environments are limited but may include your observations in multiple arenas such as the UNC-P museum, the UNC-P campus, and diverse programs, systemic interactions in the community, agencies, organizations, and etc. The readings and videos provide opportunity to embrace opportunities for connectivity, self-care, and otherness through reflecting and use of critical thinking.
The observation and reflection assignment provides time to step into and embrace the realm of otherness, which is a necessary element of continual cultural competence as social workers. This course assignment also provides additional opportunity to learn more about the UNC-P campus and build feelings of social belonging, connectivity and self-care.
The reflection journal of the student’s previous and current knowledge of social work practice regarding Indigenous People/Native American populations and the social issues experienced by Indigenous Peoples. The self-reflection will coincide with understanding one’s own cultural influences and how these influences may affect his/her own perceptions, personal values, beliefs, and decision-making practices. Additionally, the assignment offers a way for you to increase inclusivity, decreasing your potential biases.
