· Discuss the fundamentals of the philosophy of science and how it is relevant for biological sciences. Elaborate, using an example, how syllogistic fallacies can be detrimental to the integrity of biological science. Write you essay aimed at university level, using appropriate examples where asked and elaborate on them critically.
· Structure your text. Use headings to facilitate this.
· Use appropriate[1] scientific references (you need at least 5 scientific references per task). References do not count towards the word count.
· Write scientifically. Subjective and colloquial styles are not scientific, so avoid them (e.g. words such as “massive”, “drastic”, “huge”, “loads of”).
· Elaborate on sources you have cited. References used wrongly, or simply listing information is not showing understanding of the literature.
· Clearly demonstrate you understand the topics. You can do this by evidencing literature search (via references). A good answer is more than just listing a series of points from references, you will have to show understanding via writing in prose.
· Write in your own words and do it on your own as plagiarism and collusion are serious academic offences: see section 10.12 of the Academic Regulations. Avoid doing this, and use an originality checker.
· The topics are based on the key module themes, so use your lecture notes, and the canvas pages to get yourself started. You may find links to reading on the weekly canvas pages helpful.
· Allocate 1000 word equivalent to topic 1 and 1000 word equivalent to topic 2: they both have a weight of 50%.
[1] Use e.g. good textbooks, scientific journals. You need to demonstrate that you understand the sources used, so the reference will be supportive of the associated statement.
