Final Project for Managerial Communications:
Communication in Five Parts
As our text and this class demonstrate, your role in and the importance of communicating as a manager covers a multitude of disciplines and audiences.
This final will take into account several of them. You may use an example from your workplace or create a situation that you will use for all five sections of this final.
First, describe a conflict you have with an employee or between two employees or groups of employees. Walk me through in writing how you identify and mitigate that conflict. Limit your discussion to 300 words. Refer to specific sections of the text regarding conflict resolution, as well as at least one other good source to support your decision on how to proceed.
Second, write a concise email to propose a new policy that is the result of the conflict resolution to your boss or decision-makers at your organization so you don’t have that conflict again. Focus on why this is important to the boss/executives and why your solution makes sense. Again, use and reference portions of the text about email communication, as well as at least one additional good resource.
Third, assume that your policy is approved, then roll out this new policy or way to operate to your employees or the entire organization. Present this new policy in a 3-minute oral persuasive presentation (I just need an outline of what to say). Make sure you identify your audience and are clear about your purpose, use a solid structure and include ethos, logos and pathos to support your argument. Close strong with a call to action for your audience.
Four, anticipate five key questions that could be asked of you after that presentation (be tough!), write those down and briefly respond in writing to those questions (50-75 words each), making sure you return to your main message and support it with some new data, example or expert testimony. Source that new data where needed.
Five, discuss how you would communicate this new policy across the entire organization going forward. You can use as a resource the Strategic Model in Chapter 2, specifically Table 2-3 when discussing the key channels you would choose. Discuss the importance of feedback and measures of effectiveness to your communication plan. Limit your discussion to 300 words.
Please aim to be as concise but still as clear as possible. Word limits are recommendations.
