ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY AND REACTION PAPER.
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY: AT LEAST 1,000 WORDS.
You submit an annotated bibliography upon which Paper 4 is to be based. This will act as the foundation of your research and guide your paper. Annotated bibliographies also gather the reference materials and help summarize the articles, books, etc. you will be using in your paper.
Choose and analyze a particular type of crime: robbery, sexual assault, burglary, homicide, property crime, etc Research the crime statistics that have been reported via the UCR (Uniform Crime Report) maintained by the FBI.
Discuss the national, regional and state data for that crime, based upon where you live.
What are the most recent statistics?
Have they changed over time, and if so, by how much?
Write an introduction to the crime. Using what you have learned about crime reporting, and based upon research of your own, analyze the following:
Who seems to be most victimized by this crime?
Who appears to be the offender most of the time?
What is the clearance rate for this crime?
Do you feel these numbers accurately represent the actual prevalence of this crime? Why or why not?
Can you think of a better way to collect this data to make it more accurate?
Make sure you use citation and references to support any opinions you post or statements you make.
REACTION PAPER: AT LEAST 925 WORDS
In the assigned readings, you examined the issue of crime reporting and statistics. What demographic characteristic do you think has the greatest influence on crime victimization, and the subsequent reporting of those crimes? Is it age, race, ethnicity, religion, etc.? Why do you think that is? Are there statistics to confirm this? Is there a link between the two, or do victimization and the reporting of crimes differ depending on the demographic? Explain why or why not. Give an example and provide citations and references to support your position.
