As our economy responds to technological, political, and social developments, needs in the workplace change. Throughout the past 150 years, there have been three periods defining our economy, and we may be entering a fourth. Consider how the world has changed since you were a kid. Discuss the various forms of technology you have used in your lifetime. Explain how that has changed since you were a child. For example how you gather information, communicate, learn, and share information (i.e. landline telephones, cell phones for calling, texting, using Facebook, Googling, GPS, apps, gaming). Another area to cover is travel. Explore the rate of change for travel in your lifetime, compared with the 20th century. Another area to cover is the number and role of women in the workforce. What are other changes that you have seen in your lifetime and how this can impact your careers? What about long learning, the likelihood of making a career change, work-life balance, sequencing, maternal or paternal leave, diversity, and technology?
