As Chapter 14 indicates, a main distinction is that LETTERS are usually written to external audiences, while MEMOS are generally written to people or groups within your organization. In fact, many memos are intended to be confidential within an organization. However, it is important to recognize that internal memos can also find their way into the public eye–even when they are not intended to be public. There are hundreds of memos available on the web that were NOT intended for public viewing, but have been leaked for one reason or another. They often reveal information or attitudes that the company would not like to publicize. Organizations such as Slimfast, WalMart, Apple, the Pentagon, and Fox News have suffered embarrassment and liability due to such leaked memos. Here is a good article on the subject that I encourage you to read: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/312767
To complete this assignment, find an example of a “leaked” memo on a subject that interests you. Begin your response with a link to the URL (or include an image of the memo) and a brief description of what the memo contains. Next, discuss what is most problematic about the memo, and describe how it might have been written differently if the author had known that it would be made public. Describe the specific changes in wording or structure you would have made if you were the author. Finally, reflect on what we can learn from such examples.
