Discussion board- Biology

After viewing the links provided here, consider the important role algae plays in sustaining life on the ISS. We know that algae live in water and make energy from sunlight, and are one of the most abundant and diverse organisms on Earth. Essentially, algae have three components, chlorophyll and other plant pigments, omega-3 fatty acids and essential elements.
Do you think algae as a group of organisms are being underutilized in roles such as:
Role as a health supplement; rich in fatty acids.
Role in bioremediation; removing toxins from the environment as part of their life processes.
Role in energy production; storing and converting energy produced in photosynthesis.
