Shahrazad bears many similarities to heroes from other stories. Like others, she is brave, she is cunning, and she is a master storyteller. Choose any one hero from any of the stories we have read so far, and think about his portrayal in relation to Shahrazad. Then consider the following questions:
As characters, how do Shahrazad and this other hero differ? How are they similar?
If the hero from another story were faced with Shahrazad’s problem in One Thousand and One Nights, would he handle the situation differently? Would he be successful?
In your opinion, who is a more interesting character: Shahrazad or the hero of your choosing? Why?
