Dr. Kimberly Anthony
To our Valued Staff,
I hope this email finds you and your family healthy. These last 18months have been filled with complex economic and personal health challenges for many of us. I am writing to remind you all that you and the ones you love are important to us. From senior management to our entry-level interns, you are critical to our company and our success. At FedEx, our reputation is everything and we pride ourselves on putting people first. From how we treat our employees to how we interact with our customers, people will always come before profit.
Our company believes that a strong reputation can act as a life preserver during a time of crisis (Hess & Cameron, 2006). Good corporate citizenship and welfare practices lead to a better corporate image and reputation, brand-building relationships, marketing strategy, and improved financial performance (Jain & Rizvi, 2020). We realize that looking out for our employees is not only suitable for those who work here, but it also benefits our organization. If you find yourself upset about an issue, please do not keep it to yourself. My office door is always open, and your management team has all agreed to an open-door policy regarding personnel issues. We all need help from time to time, and we will foster a culture of getting people the answers they need to succeed.
We know we have asked a lot from you during these difficult times. And to be honest, we will continue to need more. In times of crisis, leaders are put in the difficult situation of balancing corporate profit and employee wellbeing. However, our management has not forgotten that we will operate as one team with one common goal, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (King James Bible, 1769/2017, Galatians 3:28). We are part of something bigger than ourselves, and our success comes from a culture of hard work and equal treatment of one another.
Adjustments can always be made, and strong communication and workplace feedback will be vital to making improvements. Remember that companies sometimes struggle and fall short in implementing their intended goals. In looking at the relationship between successful communication and performance, we must start by reflecting on our genuine efforts and determining if we are genuinely invested in practice (Schoeneborn et al., 2020). Policy implementation will only be successful if you all buy into a culture of excellence. Three main factors serve as a driving force to the achieved success of a corporation during a crisis, protecting the interests of investors, favoring the wellbeing of society and vulnerable groups, and combining the previous actions with commercial interests (García‐Sánchez, M., & García-Sánchez, A., 2020).
In closing I want to thank you for your dedication to our company and to those you work with. Our family will continue to put people over profits, and we need your help in accomplishing our mission.
With Respect and gratitude,
Erik A. Herbert
