Infection prevention and control is a practical, evidence-based approach preventing patients and health workers from being harmed by avoidable infections. Infection prevention and control effects all aspects of health care, including hand hygiene, surgical site infections, injection safety, antimicrobial resistance and how hospitals operate during and outside of emergencies. By advising the unit of ways prevent infection we can increase patient safety. “Evidence-based practice is seen as fundamental in the provision of high quality care. All nurses and healthcare providers need to ensure that this is central to their care delivery” (Walsh, 2010).
Since the unit would like this initiative to be presented and published choosing the correct way to spread the word. “Some of these approaches, such as social media and publications, disseminate findings more widely than others, such as presenting at a conference” (Oermann, 2018). For this initiative the right medium would be to use is to develop a presentation to advise the staff of the initiative. This can be made using slides to enhance the presentation. This can also be converted to a publication. Involving the administration, other nurses and patients in this initiative would be crucial. Involving stakeholders like these would help in “assessing the impact of the intervention, measures, and data analysis (quantitative and qualitative methods such as focus groups and root cause analyses), (Oermann, Christenbery, Turner, 2018).

– Based on your peers’ choices of change initiative, what systematic approach would you recommend to implement the practice changes across the organization?
Implementing a change initiative is important to maintaining the best care to patients as possible. Healthcare is a continuously evolving entity that needs healthcare professionals to be flexible and adaptable to continue its improvement. The focus for the current change initiative is to improve patient safety through improved communication. Providing a multidisciplinary structure evaluation could provide open communication opportunities for the healthcare team and concurrently promote a collaborative working environment (Wang, et al., 2018, p. 86). Communication plays a big role in the foundation of all patients care. One study shares that ineffective nurse-physician communication can increase healthcare costs, increase medical errors, lead to work dissatisfaction, decreases in nurse retention, and increases in physician frustration (Wang, et a., 2018, p. 81). There are typically many players involved for each patient, and maintaining open, effective communication is best practice for providing the best outcomes.
One possible medium that can be used for the implementation of multidisciplinary team communication evaluations may start with electronic means. Most companies have a form of electronic media to regularly update all staff of current events. Utilizing the company intranet or regular newsletter is one to begin sharing information about the evaluation process. Key stakeholders in the patient safety initiative include providers, management, nurse leadership, specialist, nurses, patients, families, among others. Change takes time and is not always an easy task. However, one study found that doing what’s best for the patient positively influenced participants’ acceptance of new practices (Arsenault-Knudsen, et al., 2021, p. 1424).
