Initial Post For the initial post, address the following:
Find and post examples of deductive and inductive arguments. Do NOT use an argument example which clearly indicates it is an example of an inductive/deductive argument.
For each example, evaluate its logical strength, using the concepts and ideas presented in the textbook readings, the lesson, and any other source you find that helps you to evaluate the validity (deductive) or strength (inductive) of the argument. You can use examples from the text, or you can find examples elsewhere.
Editorials and opinion columns are a good source, as are letters to the editor. Blogs will also often be based on arguments.
Use mapping and evaluative techniques to make sure it is an argument.
Is it inductive or deductive? Explain why.
Does it pass the tests of validity and strength? Explain.

Hi y’all,
Deductive reasoning is when you start from what you assume is accurate and draw conclusions that must be true if your assumptions are valid. A type of logic in which one goes from a general statement to a specific instance.
Example of Deductive Reasoning: The catalog states that all college freshmen must take an English placement test. Dianne is a freshman at Kean University and, therefore, will take the English placement test. This argument is valid because the tests of validity and strength if the premises are all valid, then the idea is also considered valid (Facione, 2016). This example’s assumptions are correct because of the facts being printed in Kean’s catalog.
Example of Inductive Reasoning: My grandparent’s bank safe was robbed last week. Whoever stole the belongings in the safe knew the safe’s combination. Only two people know the safe’s combination: Aunt Marie & George. Aunt Marie needed money to pay her gambling debts. Last night, Aunt Marie was seen sneaking around outside the bank (it’s a small town; everyone sees everything). Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that Aunt Marie robbed my grandparents’ safe. I suppose that this statement has strength because an inductive argument is an argument that is strong enough that, if the premises were to be accurate, then it would be unlikely that the conclusion is false (Bradford & Weisberger, 2021).
