Do you agree or disagree with this assessment?

From World War II until the final decades of the twentieth century, many Americans sought to create a more inclusive democracy and strove to break down a number of oppressive institutions. Many present-day historians would argue that these efforts brought about important changes but ultimately failed to create a truly equitable society. Do you agree or disagree with this assessment? Whether your answer is “yes” or “no,” how did different movements for the expansion of democracy compare and contrast with one another from 1865 to the present? How did they rally support to their causes and what was the basis for push back against claims to fuller rights for a greater number of Americans? How did these movements change American culture and identity? HINT: While your answer should absolutely include movements surrounding racial equality, it should also include social movements that did not primarily address racism.
