Do you ever realize how privileged you are to know God and be granted the privilege of being ushered into the Lord’s presence? For many of us, we take it for granted. Think about how much access you have to your city, state, or federal leadership? How easy is it for you to get them on the phone, immediately, when you need them? Would you be able to walk right into their presence without an appointment? For most of us, we will never have that kind of access to these types of leaders.
However, in Christ, we have that access to God, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It is by Christ’s shed blood that we have access to God. The writer to the Hebrews said that we can enter the throne of grace with confidence. Do you have that kind of confidence as you enter the Lord’s presence? Do you get overwhelmed with your guilt? Do you believe that you are not good enough to come into His presence?
In this study, we remind ourselves that we come by grace and we should come confidently, boldly, and rest in the presence of the Lord. In this devotional, you will read Chapter 10 in The Means of Grace. Then reflect on and respond to the discussion questions on the threaded discussion line.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the great privilege being ushered into Your presence. Help me never to forget what it cost to allow that kind of access. It cost the precious blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I pray that Your Holy Spirit would continue to teach of Your Son’s work to assure me of the access that I have to You. Please help me to grow in confidence of who You are and what You have done. In Your Son’s matchless name I pray, Amen.

When we practice the general means of grace, we find them always to bear fruit in our lives. The reason for that is because the general means of grace cannot be done in a rote or unthinking manner. Given that, how can the general means of grace serve as a foundation for our practice of all the other means of grace?
There are ways in which specific practices can give shape to the general means of grace. One example would be fasting. It is one of the instituted means of grace, but it will always help us to experience the general means of grace that we call self-denial. Identify and elaborate on other specific practices that can help us experience self-denial, cross bearing, the exercise of the presence of God, or some other general means of grace?
The general means of grace helps to counter the danger of dissipation – that is, they keep our faith strong and vital. Have you thought about ways to embrace the general means of grace in your own life? What difference do you think that could make for your own discipleship?
