The Federal Reserve and Treasury Department have taken unprecedented measures to pump liquidity
into the markets to assist companies, municipalities, and individuals in meeting their liquidity needs
during the Corona Virus situation. The measures included the following:
 Reducing the Target Fed Funds Rate
 Launching a Commercial Paper Liquidity Backstop (Funding facility – CPFF)
 Support the Repurchase Agreement markets
 Central Bank Foreign Current Swap Lines Increased (countries and frequency)
 Quantitative Easing to Loosen the Economy for Growth Activity
 Lending to Security Firms through the Primary Dealer Credit Facility (PDFC)
 Money Market Mutual Fund Liquidity Facility (MMLF)
 Temporary Relaxing Regulatory Requirements
 Primary Market Corporate Credit Facility (PMCCF)
 Secondary Market Corporate Credit Facility (SMCCF)
 Supporting Loans to Small and Mid-Sized Companies
 Term Asset Backed Securities Lending Facility (TALF)
 Direct Lending to Municipal Governments
 Supporting Municipal Bond Liquidity through the MMLF
Assignment
You are to develop an opinion on the Feds actions over the past 18 months to implement
unprecedented policies and their current position on dealing with inflation and tapering of the bond
purchases. Questions to opine on are:
 Do you think the actions of the Fed were warranted?
 Do you think the actions are too great or too little?
 Do you think the Fed targeted the right areas or should they have focused on other areas?
 What do you think will happen to the economy going forward?
You do not need to touch on all of the policies mentioned above but focus on the policies that you think
address your opinion.
You are to compose a 3-4-page paper describing your thoughts to the questions posed above. The paper
is due by December 16, 2021 and must be submitted through Canvas Assignments no later than 11:59.
