Go to the EbscoHost Points of View Reference Center. Locate ONE topic that interests you from the list on the landing page. Click on the link to go to that topic. Next, click on the “Point” and “Counterpoint” pages and skim them to get an overview of two opposing points of view about this topic.
Next, evaluate the arguments on the “Point” and “Counterpoint” pages using the critical reading and thinking skills you have learned in this class so far. Answer the following questions:
What is the issue these two authors are debating?
Summarize each author’s argument in your own words.
Does one author “win” the argument, in your opinion? Why or why not?
Does one author achieve better clarity of argument and/or clarity of expression than the other? Why or why not?
In your evaluation of these arguments, what barriers to critical thinking do you think you have encountered? Explain.
Use quotations from the articles as evidence for your answers. Every time you use a quote from the article, put quotes around it and then the author’s name and date in parenthesis after the quote, “like this” (Smith, 2021).
