Does society expect anything different from elderly today than in the past?

When it comes to examining our society, there is a very obvious shift in the percentage of people over 65 living in US. Just in the last 100 years, older adults (65+) went from being just 6% of the population to 16%. Slow down in birth rate, expansion of life expectancy due to different living conditions and access to advance medicine, will perpetuate the rising numbers of older adults.
Using the information from this chapter, please answer the following:
1. How do these shifts going impact society as a whole?
2. Does society expect anything different from elderly today than in the past?
3. What are the issues faced by elderly today?
