Although, forcing drug addicts into treatment is caring, we have no right to force them into treatment, because it should be a decision that is up to them, regardless of whether or not they wish to continue taking drugs.It is nevertheless not the role of doctors to ordain people who are taking drugs as they might have a complex explanation of why they are taking such drugs.There are many reasons that are behind people who are addicted to drugs.
According to Josepher(2015) “forced treatment needs to be applied selectively. “ This means that we need to make distinctions between the type of drugs people are using instead of stating a general point about drug decisions. As an example, I have a friend with drépanocytose-SS in the most severe form. She has some medicines that she cannot obtain without a doctor’s prescription. As well as that, she relies on them to survive, and when she goes for a job she gets accused of taking drugs, and sometimes the employers fail to hire her even after she proves why her test came out that way.Instead of condemning all drug addicts or justly forcing them into treatment, we need to understand that some people have an obligation to use drugs and some drugs are associated with it for a purpose. In conclusion, Josepher says that “The usual reasons given are that addicts are not ready to get off drugs or are unwilling to change or they don’t want the treatment offered.” It could be elaborated that some of those taking drugs don’t have other choices when they depend on them while others wouldn’t want to change even if they could.
Another idea, by Szalavitz (2016), is that The most effective addiction treatment is kind, welcoming, and supportive, not harsh or confrontational. For example , There are a lot of patients routinely shying away from other necessary care for their health. Sadly, decades in which force is seen as the only way to motivate drug addicts well deserve this largely inhospitable system that sees harsh and disrespectful treatment not only acceptable but mandatory.
A third writer, Satel (2016) seems to think that In cases where drug addicts refuse help, they must undergo a monitored quality treatment program until they become open to change. Therefore, Dupont concluded that the will of the addict is different when he is using drugs and when recovering his common sense.
