Your initial assignment is to provide a clearly stated and testable hypothesis that is a tentative answer to the research question, “Are Eastern Gray Squirrels territorial?” To complete this assignment, you will need to first conduct some preliminary observations of behaving squirrels (minimum of 2 hours total). You may wish to observe squirrels at multiple locations. You will want to pay particular attention to behaviors that might indicate an individual’s defense of an area from intruders, or a preparedness to defend an area

For your assignment, you will need to prepare a short (1-page, double-spaced) summary that includes:
1. The hypothesis that you intend to test (10 points): Example: Eastern Grey Squirrels are more territorial in the south than the west due to ___ (this needs to be testable)
Remember, this should be a clear and precise statement that is testable

2. The rationale for this hypothesis (15 points)
In your own words, explain what led you to your hypothesis…this can be based on your readings, your preliminary observations or both. You need to provide a clear explanation of why you formed your hypothesis

3. Brief summary of how you might test this hypothesis (15 points)
This should be brief, but still allow a reader to understand how you will test your hypothesis. Will you conduct a study or experiment? What data will you collect? Clearly explain how the data will be utilized to test your hypothesis.
