Educational philosophy

Edu 187 educational philosophy

Introduction
As you enter the field of teaching, it will be important to understand what your beliefs are on ‘how teachers should teach,’ and ‘how children learn’. This is called your educational philosophy (or learning theory). For this assignment you will use ‘Brown’s Useful Guide: Where Theory Becomes Applicable to Classroom Practice’ as your resource. https://csuepress.columbusstate.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1002&context=textbooks
The Assignment
Part One: Read Chapter 2 from ‘Brown’s Useful Guide: Where Theory Becomes Applicable to Classroom Practice’. Once you have read the chapter you will need to take the ‘Philosophic Inventory’ starting on page 17 of the text. Score your inventory to see which philosophy your beliefs are most aligned. (It can be common to have more than one philosophy with high scores, or close scores.)
Part Two: Once you’ve completed the Inventory, complete the rest of the assignment:
Research your highest scoring philosophy (if you have two tied for top score – you may research both, or choose one). Once you have researched the philosophies, you will include a write up summarizing what you’ve learned about this philosophy, and what it looks like in the classroom.
You should show a clear understanding of what this philosophy would look like in a classroom setting. Here are some questions to consider:
* Do students work in groups, or alone?
* Do they work in mixed ability groups?
* How involved is the teacher?
* Does the curriculum relate to children’s interests, or is it preset?
Grading Criteria
To receive top score:
* You must choose one of the five philosophies listed within Chapter 2 of Brown’s Useful Guide: Where Theory Becomes Applicable to Classroom Practice
* Your write up should be a minimum of 3 paragraphs, each with a minimum of 7 sentences, in length
* Use at least two resources; be sure to cite your sources
* Your essay should be free of grammatical and spelling errors
