This essay assignment aims to assess your comprehension of the lectures, readings, and films for the last three weeks, which introduce you to theories of race/race making, borderlands, settler colonialism, empire, racial capitalism, Spanish and ango fantasy past. In this reflection paper, you will have an opportunity to not only reflect on your visit but to also apply themes, concepts and readings of your choice. This paper requires you to 1.) engage in a critical analysis of a historical site of Los Angeles, 2.) put your site visit in conversation with materials from the course and 3) gain a broader understanding of Los Angeles historical monuments that shape the lives of Chicanxs, Latinxs, and Angelenos.
When visiting El Pueblo be observant to the sights, monuments, and people that create this historical site, considered the birthplace of Los Angeles. Feel free to include your reactions and feelings about this visit, place and space in your conclusion.
