This course satisfies the LAE requirement of scientific literacy. Students are required to write a 500–1000-word essay
1) explaining the use of appropriate data and evidence to justify and compare competing claims, especially those that would be relevant to informed citizens; and 2) identifying the aims and limits of statistical reasoning
For part one in discussing competing claims you may consider hypothesis testing examples. For part 2 consider the fact that statistics deals with uncertainty , and with regards to its aim consider the following: ” Statistical inference is the process of using data analysis to infer properties of an underlying distribution of probability. Inferential statistical analysis infers properties of a population, for example by testing hypotheses and deriving estimates”.
