Here’s the exercise: Create a two-person scene. Have it happen at a beach. But your characters are not discussing anything at the beach, though their conversation should be interrupted by typical actions that might happen at a beach.
Give one character a repeated line like “I don’t touch the cards”
Have either character play with language i.e. take a compound word like “bullshit” and play with both sides of it during the course of the conversation.
One person wants something from the other. Make one of the characters get sadder and sadder (escalate the scene).
