RULES: You are required to develop 8 reading personal responses about selected literature. The responses are personal about what you think of the main focus. Did you like the work? Why or why not? What do you think is the author’s, musician’s, etc. message? Is it conveyed effectively? Why or why not? Did you learn anything about the literature? The time period based on the reading, video, image, etc.? Can you relate to the work? How?
I do not want to read a summary of the selection–I know what it is about (points for summary responses will be deducted). Nor should you repeatedly state something like “I did not like the work because I could not understand the words. The words were difficult to comprehend. I did not recognize any of the words. They are difficult to decipher in relation to contemporary words. I had a difficult time understanding the words.” You will not be awarded credit for this type of submission.
Note: You will also develop two “Power Responses.” This means you will still offer your analysis, but there is a specific focus I identify, and the content will extend to at least three pages. The “Power Responses” are worth 50 points each.
Also, I will not deduct points for grammatical mistakes, (misspelled words are the exception), but I would hope that you do try to produce a report that contains as few errors as possible.
These reports must be typed and extend at least one and a half-page in length, double spaced. Remember to use 1” margins on all sides of the paper (anything less will result in point deductions).
The exception to this length relates to the two Power Responses. Please see above.
Please include the MLA heading at the top of the first page only (there is an example in the Course Documents area).
If you submit the report the day it is due, or before, include the information requested, and adhere to margins, spacing, etc, your report will be assigned 25 points. Remember that if you do not follow directions, you will not have the opportunity to revise the assignment. You will be issued a grade based on your initial work.
