Essay 7: Envision either a gay or lesbian couple. Do you try to fit them into the heteronormative constructs of “husband” and “wife”? Is that fair for them? Might there be another way to describe their partnership?
Please be thorough, articulate, and clear. There is no right or wrong answer. We are not looking for support of our opinions. We want to see you developing critical thinking skills, your own theories, and being open to a new paradigm. The grading will go as follows, and each essay will be worth 25 points with a total of 200 points.
10% Grammar (Grammar)
10% Consistency in Style (Style)
15% Clearly stated and supported thesis (Thesis)
15% Well-developed ideas (Development)
50% Proper formatting, clear, concise, understandable and comprehensive (Cogency)
Please remember, this is an upper division psychology class. The need to follow APA formatting and grammar rules is implied, as is the need for explanations and examples to back up your claims. Assumptions and broad generalizations will lose you points, as will poor writing. Your opinions, feelings, and beliefs will not affect the grading process, even if a need for a reference or more details will. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask far enough in advance to receive a response prior to assignment deadline. Citations need to be in APA format, and included on an APA reference page. Using peer reviewed articles can add greatly to your discussion. Just be cautious and avoid more than one short quotation per paper. Rephrasing, then citing, is more professional. Essays need to be at least 2 pages not including the reference page.
